Escape

Escape . Photographed by Carlos Olivier

Escape was taken at Princess island in the heart of Calgarys downtown. I feel that every so often I need to escape my everyday life and surround myself with nature. It’s a great way for me to let go anything that might be stressing me out but living in the city sometimes can make this difficult. Calgary has several gems so close to the city core like princess island, you just need to know where to look.

The watcher

The watcher . Photographed by Carlos Olivier

From the same photo shoot as my last post. I decided to mirror this image and I started to notice a few The photograph reminded me of an owls eyes looking right at me. I also noticed that at the top center I can clearly see the image of a wolf. It’s not as clear but I can also spot a man with his arms up in the direct center of the image. I know that it’s just my brain “matrixing” but it helped me come up with a story of an owl watching a man having a showdown with a large wolf. I was taught by my native relatives that seeing an owl was a sign that someone was going to pass away. I hope this guy in this is gonna be alright, but with an owl watching I don’t think things will turn out in his favor.

Please share this post and let me know if you can see wanting else in this photograph that I may have missed

My first attempt at photography

Glass in my eye . By Carlos Olivier

This was taken inside an old metal garbage bin. I filled it with broken reduced glare glass. I did this because standard glass will only reflect light. Reduced glare glass plays with the color spectrum and shows refliction in turquoise and magenta tones.

I am just giving this photography thing a try, I took this photo on my cell phone as I want to see if photography is for me.

Chief Crowfoot

Chief Crowfoot . Charcoal on Paper. By Carlos Olivier

Crowfoot (1830 – 25 April 1890) or Isapo-Muxika (Blackfoot Issapóómahksika, “Crow-big-foot”[1]) was a chief of the Siksika First Nation. His parents, Istowun-eh’pata (Packs a Knife) and Axkahp-say-pi (Attacked Towards Home), were Kainai. He was only five when Istowun-eh’pata was killed during a raid on the Crow tribe, and a year later, his mother remarried to Akay-nehka-simi (Many Names) of the Siksika people where he was brought up.[2] Crowfoot was a warrior who fought in as many as 19 battles and sustained many injuries. Despite this, he tried to obtain peace instead of tribal warfare. Crowfoot is well known for his involvement in Treaty Number 7 and did much negotiating for his people. While many believe Chief Crowfoot had no part in the North-West Rebellion, he did in fact participate to an extent due to his son’s connection to the conflict.[3] Crowfoot died of tuberculosis at Blackfoot Crossing on April 25, 1890. Eight hundred of his tribe attended his funeral, along with government dignitaries.[4] In 2008, Chief Crowfoot was inducted into the North America Railway Hall of Fame where he was recognized for his contributions to the railway industry.[5] Crowfoot is well known for his contributions to the Blackfoot nation, and has many memorials to signify his accomplishments.

MY LATEST CREATION – TUPAC SHAKUR

Tupac WMTupac – 9 x 12 – Pastels on paper – By. Carlos Olivier

“I know it seems hard sometimes but remember one thing. Through every dark night, there’s a bright day after that. So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out, keep ya head up… and handle it.” -Tupac Shakur

Tupac was a voice of a generation. Growing up with older cousins I was introduced to rap music at a young age. One artist that makes my personal top 5 favorites is Tupac. If I have learned anything from this guy it is that we as individuals and as a society need to question everything always and that not everything is as it seems.

This is my second attempt at pastels and have learned a lot from my previous attempt. I am thinking of doing some more. I have watched several youtube tutorials and learned several techniques.

While in Las Vegas I stayed at a hotel that overlooked the intersection that Tupac was shot.
